Chronos Body, Health & Wellness offers more than fitness.

ChronosThis fall, New Orleans gained a comprehensive new health and wellness resource. Chronos Body, Health & Wellness, founded by Dr. Mace Scott and Dr. Miguel Aguilera, combines a plethora of fitness, nutrition and beauty resources under one Metairie roof — from a 24-hour fitness center with virtual classes and personal trainers on staff to weight-loss programs; day spa offerings; and medical spa services.

“This is a new concept, and it is the whole package,” Dr. Scott says. “We want to be more than just a fitness center. We have packages adding in spa services, packages adding in laser skin treatments, and so many more options. Of course, the fitness center has top-of-the-line equipment — and we’re working on building our outdoor fitness programs for rowing, boot camp and cycling.”

The concept for Chronos came about organically, when Dr. Scott sought treatment from medical aesthetician Lisa Lambert for a skin condition. Lambert proposed working together, and “One thing just led to another,” Dr. Scott says. Soon enough, he and Dr. Aguilera were searching for a space to house Chronos. The partners knew that a whole-body wellness center would be a huge boon to New Orleans, helping some locals find balance between the city’s party-packed lifestyle and a healthier path. “We decided we would do it, but not because we wanted to make a profit,” he says.

BREAK A SWEAT AT CHRONOS FITNESS CENTER
Chronos’ 24-hour fitness center is the centerpiece of its spacious facility. The center offers group classes incorporating a wide variety of movements, including gentle options like yoga, Pilates and barre, as well as more intense workout options, like TRX and cross-training.

With more than a dozen classes on the schedule, and a range of top-of-the-line cardio and strength-training equipment, the 7,000-square-foot space eliminates the need to break a sweat anywhere outside the gym. “Exercise has been shown to reduce stress levels,” says Dr. Scott. “Here, you can work out, shower and go straight to the spa to really boost that effect.”

The center is also among the first fitness centers in New Orleans to offer a range of outdoor classes, like rowing, boot camp and spinning, on its airy patio. “We’ll be the only ones,” Dr. Scott says. “The space that we’re going to build next year is bigger.”

Those who can’t get to the gym during traditional hours can still benefit from group classes with the Chronos Fitness on Demand program — a virtual fitness service that gives members the option to take virtual classes any hour of the day or night. “It’s virtual fitness for things like aerobics and spinning,” Dr. Scott explains. Whether members prefer to work out at non-peak hours, or just need to work their workouts around a busy schedule, Fitness on Demand classes provide the instruction of a group class without the need to be at the gym at a certain time.

Finally, key-card entry and security systems help ensure safety no matter what time members want to work out.

WORK ONE-ON-ONE WITH YOUR WELLNESS COACH
Chronos’ “wellness coaches” are certified personal trainers; they teach the center’s group classes, and they are also available to work individually with members. New-member orientation includes a free training session so members can experience what it’s like to work one-on-one with a coach.

“Our wellness coaches are kind of a concierge service for our clients — helping make sure they’re keeping up with their workouts, helping coach them to come to courses and come to the gym,” Dr. Scott says. “We’re not the typical big fitness center where there’s 50 people in a class. It’s more intimate, more one-on-one. Get to know your coach, and your coach gets to know you.”

DISCOVER THE SCIENCE OF BEAUTY AT CHRONOS MED SPA
Because exercise is just one element of total-body wellness, Chronos also integrates nutrition and weight-loss management programs; results-oriented medical spa services; and relaxing day-spa services into its extensive offerings. “It’s more of a lifestyle change,” Dr. Scott says. “We’re giving people the option and ability to help them focus on changing their bad habits and become healthier.”

One highlight of the Chronos Med Spa is a highly effective, FDA-approved procedure to slim down body fat. CoolSculpting, a treatment that works by freezing subcutaneous fat cells, requires zero surgery or downtime. “It’s a very unique procedure, and it works incredibly,” Dr. Scott says. “You have the procedure, and you go back to work.”

At the Med Spa, medical aestheticians Lisa Lambert and Eris Khalil work with clients to improve skin texture and concerns. High-tech laser treatments, microdermabrasion and chemical peels smooth the skin’s surface and can ameliorate age-related skin concerns, while dermal fillers like Botox, Dysport and Juvederm can lend a more youthful appearance. The goal, according to Dr. Scott, is rejuvenation inside and out. “Our aestheticians change people’s skin — and how they feel about it,” he says.

EXPERIENCE LUXURY AND RELAXATION AT CHRONOS DAY SPA
A range of day spa offerings complements Chronos’ medical spa treatments and state-of-the-art fitness center. Facial services range from acne treatments to hydrating facials and masks; cosmetologists also offer luxury nail-care services for both men and women, with a huge selection of polishes available, including organic, acrylic and gel options.

Licensed massage therapists are on hand to incorporate aromatherapy, reflexology, hot stones and more into a customized, tension-relieving massage. “Receiving massage therapy helps members get the most out of the time they spend in the fitness center,” Dr. Scott says.

BECOME A MEMBER OF THE CHRONOS COMMUNITY
More than anything, Chronos aims to create a community of health-conscious members who support and motivate each other. Plenty of shared spaces, including comfortable lounges, offer members the chance to get to know each other. The center also plans to offer wellness-focused events, like cooking demonstrations, special fitness classes and nutrition instruction.

Chronos’ flexible membership plans mean that there’s an option for everyone. “We see what we can do for the community,” Dr. Scott says. “We’re just very excited about bringing this whole thing together.” 3262 Severn Ave., Metairie, (504) 267-4549, chronosbhw.com
