Canal Street: Home For the Holidays: For the holidays, you can’t beat home sweet home!

 

Dive right in to the holiday season with a festive series of events presented by The Roosevelt New Orleans and the Downtown Development District. Celebrating a decade of fun, Canal Street: Home for the Holidays invites families and friends from near and far for a month of merriment in Downtown New Orleans!

Canal Street Lighting Ceremony – Nov. 21
Set your holiday aglow with a million, electrifying lights when the Astor Crown Plaza French Quarter Hotel and the Downtown Development District make Canal Street twinkle Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. Promenade along the glowing, historic corridor and then join in on the fun inside the Astor Crowne Plaza where you’ll enjoy entertainment by The Voices of Peter Claver and a special visit from Santa Claus. Plus, kids who bring an unwrapped toy as a donation can join Santa and decorate holiday cookies!

Holiday Movies on the Mississippi – Dec. 8 & 15
This year, the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Plaza will play host to select holiday films for the whole family. Enjoy these outdoor, free showings of Polar Express starring Tom Hanks Dec. 8 and Elf with Will Ferrell Dec. 15, both showing at 6:30 pm. Bring the kiddos; grab some popcorn and hot cocoa; and settle in for movies at the plaza.

Krewe of Jingle Parade – Dec. 2
It can’t be a holiday in New Orleans without a parade! That’s why the Downtown Development District and The Roosevelt New Orleans have teamed up again this year to present the Krewe of Jingle parade. Gaze in awe as the joyful floats pass by followed by our beloved, local marching bands, festive Christmas characters and more. Dec. 2 at 1 p.m., the Krewe of Jingle will roll down Canal Street — so don’t forget to shout, “Throw me somethin’ Santa!”

Downtown NOLA Saturday Shopping Spree – Dec. 2
Take advantage of an all-day shopping spree brought to you by the Downtown Development District, The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk and Harrah’s Casino New Orleans! Participating shops at The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk will be offering a bonus of 15 percent off all Saturday long Dec. 2, so grab some of those last-minute gifts or even get that gift you’ve always wanted for yourself!

The Shops at Canal Place Reindeer Run & Romp and Holiday Scavenger Hunt – Dec. 9
Don your finest elf ears or glowing nose — get ready to work off the fudge, fried turkey and candied ham — and join in on the annual Reindeer Run & Romp and Holiday Scavenger Hunt presented by Entergy New Orleans and the Downtown Development District. On Dec. 9, children of all ages will be lining up for a race that will begin at the ring of Santa’s jingling bells. All runners will receive bells for their sneakers, antlers, a race t-shirt and a bag of holiday goodies. Don’t forget to save your breath for a rollicking, wild romp after the run in The Shops at Canal Place Plaza where attendants can participate in a scavenger hunt and more! downtownnola.com
