New in Nola: Team Tennis for All June2013WellnessYou know all the excuses that hold you back from your dreams of becoming a tennis star:
I don’t have the time.
I don’t have anyone to play with.
Those I know who play tennis are much too advanced.
My crazy schedule will never allow it.

USTA Flex Leagues render your excuses obsolete by packaging the thrills of organized league tennis into a flexible schedule so that everyone can play, even those who lack time and ability. Sign up at ustaflex.com to be grouped with players in your skill level in an organized season of up to eight matches, when and where it’s most convenient. Put your game face on, because USTA Flex Leagues in New Orleans are a smash hit.

The 2013 Bridgeman Duathlon
Running, cycling and more running. Sound like fun? As the name suggests, a duathlon is a two-sport race and the most popular in our great state, the Bridgeman Duathlon, takes place in the Crescent City.

Picture this: you and your fellow duathletes set out running under a canopy of 100-year-old oak trees before you transition to cycling at the Gretna Farmers Market. From there, you cross the Mississippi River by way of the Crescent City Connection and finish with an out-and-back run along the river. When all is said and done, you will have biked ten miles and run four, and the food, drink and music at the finish line only sweeten the deal.

When: Sunday, June 9, 2013, 7:00 am
Where: Gretna Farmer’s Market, 300 Huey P. Long Ave.
How: Register at www.bridgeman104duathlon.com by Thursday, June 6.

Superfood Spotlight: Quinoa
Quinoa is an energy-producing cereal grain packed with amino acids, calcium, magnesium, zinc and potassium. It is easily digested and converted to energy, making it an ideal fuel for endurance sports. While quinoa is a fairly recent addition to our supermarkets’ shelves, it has been grown and eaten for over 5,000 years in the Andes Mountain regions of South America.

Where to Try It
Quinoa is a first-rate grain to serve alongside meat, fish or vegetables, but some of the hottest local restaurants are also using it in their salads:
City Greens, 909 Poydras Street, Suite 125
The Quinoa, Kale and Corn Salad: carrots, corn, roasted Brussels sprouts, quinoa, sheep’s milk feta, lacinato kale and arugula with a roasted tomato vinaigrette

Satsuma Café, 7901 Maple Street
The Carrot & Quinoa Salad: spice-roasted carrots, feta, fresh mint and pistachios with a toasted cumin-lime vinaigrette
