Protect your hair from damage during festival season.
Are you ready for Jazz Fest? What about French Quarter Fest and Freret Fest? April is packed with opportunities to get outside, hear great live music and eat to your heart’s content. We know you’ll be smart about sunblock, but don’t forget that your hair needs protection too. Sun, wind and dust can do a number on hair color and texture — but not if you follow these simple tips for fabulous festival hair.
Be sure to deep-condition. If you don’t already have a favorite leave-in hair conditioner, pick up a tub of The Hair Doctor by LUSH. This refreshingly minty and deeply moisturizing hair treatment soothes your scalp, while a coconut-almond oil blend adds shine. $16, lushusa.com
Shield hair from the sun. Spend a few bucks on an SPF spray for your hair. We like L’Oreal EverPure UV Protect Spray, which protects hair from damaging UVA and UVB rays. Plus, it’s vegan and cruelty-free! $11, amazon.com
Lock down your locks. Don’t be tempted to let your hair blow freely over the Fair Grounds! Plait and pin up long or fine hair for a chic look that doesn’t involve hours of detangling later.
Let your hat do double duty. Pale-skinned ladies know there’s no substitute for a wide-brimmed sun hat — but it goes without saying that hats protect more than your skin. If your hair will be peeking out from under the brim, simply braid and spritz with your SPF spray.
