Make yourself at home during the holidays!
DDLNOVCanalCelebrate with family and friends this holiday season with a festive series of events presented by The Roosevelt New Orleans and the Downtown Development District. Now in its eighth year, Canal Street: Home for the Holidays is jingling bells and exclaiming “Ho-Ho-Ho,” hailing families from near and far to join in on a month chock full of merrymaking in Downtown New Orleans!

Nov. 24
Canal Street Lighting Ceremony
Bask in the glow of more than a million dazzling lights when the Astor Crowne Plaza New Orleans French Quarter hotel and the Downtown Development District set Canal Street ablaze in holiday lights on Nov. 24 at 5:30 p.m. Don’t hesitate to frolic along the corridor in the cheerful radiance and then stop in to Astor Crowne Plaza’s St. Charles Ballroom to slurp up some piping hot apple cider or creamy cocoa, while decorating your very own cookie. Naturally, Santa will be on hand to ensure holiday wishes come true to all the good boys and girls who donate an unwrapped, new toy for local charities.

Dec. 4, 11 & 18
Holiday Movies on the Mississippi
Catch a festive outdoor flick in the Spanish Plaza at The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk! Bring family and friends to enjoy fantastic free flicks airing each Friday at 6:30 p.m. in December (except Christmas Day). The Polar Express, starring Tom Hanks, airs on Dec. 4; Home Alone, featuring Macaulay Culkin, will screen Dec. 11; and Elf, with Will Ferrell, will play on Dec. 18.

Dec. 5
Krewe of Jingle Parade
The holiday season in New Orleans simply wouldn’t be as festive without a parade, so the Downtown Development District and The Roosevelt New Orleans have joined forces to present the Krewe of Jingle parade — replete with mirthful floats, local marching bands, jubilant Christmas characters and more! Beginning in Lee Circle on Dec. 5 at 1 p.m., the Krewe of Jingle will roll down St. Charles Avenue all the way to Canal Street and then back down Baronne Street to finish up on Howard Avenue. Throw me somethin’ merry mister!

Dec. 12
Reindeer Run and Romp
There must be some way to get into shape during the feasting season … wait … there’s always the Reindeer Run and Romp, presented by Entergy New Orleans and the Downtown Development District! On December 12, children of all ages will be lining up for a race down Canal Street that will begin at the ring of Santa’s jingling bells. All runners big and small will receive a race T-shirt, a bag of holiday treats and a pair of antlers to wear while racing. If you have any breath left, there will also be a wild romp after the run in The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk’s Spanish Plaza — where attendees are free to enjoy healthy activities, including yoga for kids, games, music, crafts and more. Don’t forget to get a picture with Santa to mark this special occasion!
